Organizational Leadership
OGL 200, OGL 220, OGL 300: Leadership Behaviors, Transformational and Charismatic Leadership and other leadership theories were obtained by a real life view on an organization through Simulations. For instance: In simulation 6 (Leadership) I selected options in which I were in charge of making decisions, as a COO, for my company based on diversity issues. I have never had an office job at the corporate level, so this class gave me an insight on how to think and behave as a top executive. The expectations and basics of leadership taught in this class helped me form a foundation for the path of Organizational Leadership.
Article 1: This first article is about the idealist side of leadership. I answer questions based on character traits. I learned from answering these specific questions the power of perception. Throughout my journey, I evaluated and assessed my strengths and challenges. I've acknowledged the beauty in learning from another point of view.
Article 2: To develop the best followers, leaders must have the right qualities. I learned in OGL 300 the differences between styles of leadership. The skills and traits associated with transformational leaders differ from authentic leadership styles. I am continuing to develop skills to form the best leaders. I am currently a supervisor at Starbucks. The difficulty I find in leading is I didn't have a say in who was being hired. This makes leading more challenging but with the right skillset I can inspire a follower. In addition to setting a good example, I can practice the processes already in place for succeeding at Starbucks and maintaining the shared vision.
Articles 3&4: Mental models were introduced to me in this course, and have been helpful in all of my classes. Mental models are used as an awareness to one’s bias. I came across an article that used a way of getting ideas from colleagues or subordinates called World Café. This is from paper 3 where I talk about issues with co-workers. Getting ideas from various groups helps with an overall view of opinions.
