Project Management
OGL 320, OGL 321: Quality criteria, change management and contingency plans are just a few of the very important aspects of project management. Throughout the entire process of learning project management, the vital information to me were the contingency plans. I learned change management is much more manageable when there is a plan in place, and risk of failure is minimized.
One of my favorite quotes is "We fail forward when we choose to learn". Prototypes, problem-framing, contingency plans and more contingency plans allow tasks to meet our goals. PM has drastically changed my way of thinking. My time management at home and work have become smoother in time management, budgeting and over all decision making.
Article 1: During a simulation, I learned the importance of feedback. The results of the simulation convinced me to share tasks, delegate leadership and be on the same team as my subordinates. Every decision is important and entail a consequence and sometimes a domino effect.
Article 2: For this article, I review The Big Dig. This was a video I watched in class OGL 321. The results of one decision caused a series of events and tough lessons to be learned.
Article 3: The Baseline Assessment was completed to review my life. The questions I answered in the article refer to my learning styles, stress management and overall structure of how I run my life. This class was special for me thanks to the author of Scrappy Projects by Carol Dweck, and my professor, Dr. Chandler. The encouragement and reassurance wasn't necessary but I admit gave me confidence. In addition, it showed me another way to become motivated. I took this as a lesson for leadership: Encourage and Inspire.
Article 4: O'Connell, author of What You Need to Know about Project Management, writes about the importance of planning ahead. Her book made a dent in my planning strategies when she stated the increase in time it takes to complete a task when it's not planned for- or put off. The end result has always been my motivation, such as when I planned my wedding. If I would have ignored a risk, such as a payment not going through, I could have ruined the chance to hold down a reception hall for the wedding. In this article, I learned the importance, specifically, of planning, quality criteria and contingencies. The Titanic and Trump Hotel ran into delays and inexperience which showed me why these three items are crucial to prioritize.
